While, on one hand, natural building is a method of erecting a structure, you should understand that, to many, it’s also much more than that. Part of my purpose in this paper is to show how it promotes health in other aspects of life such as recycling, sustainability, permaculture, community, and a host of other concepts that are essential to healthy living on our planet. These values are trends throughout most building methods that consider themselves to be natural and sustainable.

Natural building starts with the ideal that your materials come from the most local and/or sustainable sources available. That may mean they come from a nearby farm, near a local waterway, or maybe the materials were dug up on the building site. In the documentary Garbage Warrior, Michael Reynolds uses an example of tires to explain how some recycled materials could be considered “natural” in our modern landscape. Site design ...

It’s about 8 AM and I just got to school. I am sitting at a table in building 30 looking out at the garden towards building 5. It’s pretty quiet and the view is wonderful. It’s raining outside. It is a cross between pouring and misting. It’s pouring, but the drops are microscopic; it’s pouring mist. I don’t mind this rain. This rain that gives some people pain. I just don’t like the cold, especially the rain when it’s cold. This rain during the summer is more poetic to me. It’s so peaceful and when I look at it like it’s nature, cause it is, it’s like part of Mother Nature’s personality or her life cycle. All of us women have a life cycle, eh,
I guess men do too, but Mother Nature has a female cycle like us women.
I love looking at nature from different angles. Microscopic views, global ...

When I was a little girl, about eight years old, I asked my father if he had ever fought in a war. He was born in 1917, so it was possible that he could have fought in WWII or the Korean War. He told me that he hadn’t, but that he had worked at Hill Air Force Base in northern Utah. He was a machinist there. I had feelings of relief that my father was never directly involved with combat. He was such a good dad to have talks with me like this. I had been reading the ten commandments, and in the same conversation I asked my father, “if God said, ‘Thou shalt not kill’, does our church believe it was okay to go to war?” He answered me with, “Yes, they also believe in the law of the land.” I shook my head and said, “No, it’s ...

It took me a long time to realize that I could simply choose to be happy instead of relying on happenstance and meander through life hoping happiness would find me. There is a perfect order in nature and everything is connected. I believe in the law of attraction and that coincidences show us our paths towards our desires and spiritual awakening. I started paying attention to my path when I was told to read The Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield. This story made me realize that if I followed the coincidences being shown to me, I would be guided on a path towards my desires (Redfield 4-6).
We often think of coincidences as peculiar connections between people and events that have no meaning or purpose. I believe coincidences are the same thing as synchronicity. In Wayne Dyer’s book, Inspiration Your Ultimate Calling, he says to consider what the word coincidence itself ...

Every morning that I wake up I thank God for David Gilmour of Pink Floyd. If it were not for his influence, I would never have learned about “The ever delicious Miss Kate Bush,” as described by a member of Dr Hook introducing her on the BBC in England, April 7, 1980. It was David Gilmour who had the insight to put up the money for her to record a demo in 1975 (Bolton, 6). In my opinion, she is by far the most ingenious song writer and performer I have ever heard, seen, or felt.
Her visions through art expressed in her songs and performances are the most creative I have seen to date. When you get sucked into Kate’s world, you get lost forever tumbling down the rabbit hole with her provocative gestures and words. On a USA radio station’s interview on youtube they say she has an octave ...

Tucked away on the west side of campus is a growing, student-driven program that involves several different career paths ranging from construction to conservation. For some students, the Learning Garden is an opportunity to gain experience before graduation.
Scott Alexander is one of those students. He was unhappy with his job and, after a great deal of consideration, he gave up a secure job to seek a degree in construction.
Alexander’s dream is to build environmental friendly living spaces. Knowing how important it is to have credentials, he decided to take the long way to getting the career of his dreams. Although he loves the idea of working for trade instead of money, Alexander knows that is not likely to be the case in today’s society.
Alexander, who’s also a diabetic, says the time he spends in the garden gives him some much-needed exercise without running on a treadmill.
His wife, Lynnette, was extremely ...

I either had a perfect guardian angel or the luck of the Irish the day I got my driver license. I remember that I was seventeen and invincible! I always did whatever I wanted to do and dealt with the consequences later, like the day I got my driver license.
As soon as I returned home from the DMV that day, I got a call from my friend Kelly. He said a bunch of people were going to the Bay to party and wanted to know if I was interested in going. “The Bay” was Alamitos Bay in Long Beach, California. It was a popular place for water skiing and hanging out. I told him to come over and I would ask my dad for his truck so we could go get a keg of beer to take to the party. Kelly was one of our older friends of the group ...

I recently read an article entitled, “Why We Hate Monsanto” and it has been on my mind ever since.
I suspect that there are very few (if any) folks that share a genuine love of nature and all things radiantly healthy who can also support, in good conscience, the heinous technologies of Monsanto.
It would be difficult (if not impossible) to exaggerate all that has transpired.
The beliefs and actions of this company have been both mind boggling and mind numbing to those watching in disbelief.
They have repeatedly taken on the role of bullies in pinstripe suits.
And they have left no stone unturned when it came to manipulating virtually everything from our farmers to chickens, pigs, cows, even the lowly ear of corn has not been safe from their salivating gaze … much like a herd of feral pigs on a wild rampage to mindlessly destroy everything on their ...
